Volunteering

At Vision Academy Charter School (VACS), we welcome parents, guardians, relatives, and caregivers to actively engage in our school community through volunteering. Your time, talents, and support enrich the educational experience of our scholars and help strengthen the bond between school and home.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to get involved! Volunteers support teachers, students, and staff in numerous ways, from assisting in classrooms to helping with school events and activities.

Guidelines for Volunteers

To ensure a safe, productive, and positive experience, all volunteers are expected to follow these guidelines:

  • Sign In/Out: Please check in at the main office upon arrival and departure.
  • Wear Your Badge: Always display your volunteer badge while on campus.
  • Respect Confidentiality: Never discuss student progress, grades, or classroom matters with anyone outside of the staff.
  • Be Consistent: If you commit to a regular schedule, please attend reliably. Please notify the teacher or office if you are unable to attend.
  • Leave Discipline to Staff: Any concerns regarding student behavior should be directed to teachers or staff.
  • Dress Appropriately: Dress comfortably, while keeping in mind that you are a role model for students.

Required Paperwork

To volunteer at VACS, please provide:

Mandatory Clearances (per PA Law)

If you have lived in PA for fewer than 10 years:

  • FBI Fingerprint Clearance
  • PA State Police Clearance (no fee for volunteers)
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance (no fee for volunteers)

If you have lived in PA for 10+ continuous years:

  • PA State Police Clearance (no fee for volunteers)
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance (no fee for volunteers)
  • Disclosure Statement (Affidavit) in lieu of FBI fingerprinting

How to Apply

  • PA State Police Criminal Record Check: Complete online (results in minutes, no fee).
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance: Apply online (results in ~14 days, no fee for volunteers).
  • FBI Background Check: Schedule online.

All clearances must be renewed every 36 months (3 years). Clearances from prior employment or volunteering may be submitted if still valid.

Parent Drivers

Parents who plan to drive students for field trips, athletics, or school-sponsored events must complete the PA Request for Driver Information form and submit a copy to the school.

Submitting Documentation

Once clearances are obtained:

  • Place documents in a sealed envelope with your name.
  • Deliver them to the School Secretary in the VACS Office.
